Been One Heck of a Day...

And now...it is almost over...or at least, it is for me...YAWN!!!! Ready to hit the sack and slip off to dreamy bye land... where all the creepy monsters and boogies await to attack...yes, I am one that often has fitful dreams filled with weird creatures and things waiting to pounce...but that is another blog for another day...

Both Richard and I worked on many things today including the bits you see below...but also house stuff....a real mixed bag you might say.
Richard finished his wooden base part...the basic part...now all the little detailed work can begin...like the Owl, snake and tiny dragons...and painting of course....I think I get to do that part...I LOVE that part.
The third pic down is Richard is...oh how did Richard say it..."Turning a circle into an octagon " with tiny files and rasps... COO COO...COO COO!!! Then he put parts together that were from yesterdays pics... milled Plexiglas on bottom and glass bead on top...but as you can see we had differing opinions on which bead should be used on top... Blue or clear...the jury is still out on that one...we have time to decide....yes...Richard and I can spends days on details like this, I know..sick!

The other shot is the starting of the brass stand that will be on the backside of the carved/ sculpted owl ...and from that will be the two stands that hold all the candles.
Richard has started working on the owl late today.... the whole thing will be made to come apart in stages...to paint, bake etc... then reassembled.

The last shot is Dumbledore with his first layer of clothing on..... this one threw me for a loop...I hate bulky clothing and the fabrics I had seemed to stiff...so I spent a few hours...washing out sizing and lightly sanding the backside of the fabric. I liked this fabric as it was a nice Burgundy with a gold gilt to the fabric... it has six size 22 gold beads up each sleeve and a whole lot of under trim down the front...sorry it didn't show well in this photo... Now tomorrow I will begin his Wizard robe...the hat over the weekend..plus glasses (Richard makes those)..but I won't push those yet as he is up to eyeballs in Owl right now...

OK...fading fast.... see you in the morning...

Jodi

Fantastic Jodi, really enjoying watching you and Richard bring Dumbledore to life. The Lectern is wonderful, but what have you decided Clear or Blue?

Whittaker's Miniatures said...

OOOOh thats a tricky one Jodi, clear or blue, the clear seems more as it is in the film but the blue looks so wizardy and colourful, its tricky to see without the whole piece together isnt it. Dumbeldore is looking just magnificent in his first set of clothes, i cant believe how quickly you two work.
Check out our blog if you get a chance to see a different kind of Dumbeldore, pretty sexy huh!!!

Dumbledore is so elegant.I'd date him. If matters...I'd have the blue bead on the lectern, I like it better. Hugs

Hope no spooky monsters got you last night! Rushed right here this morning to see how things were progressing! Oh my you have been busy! You two work so well together, it is such a joy to see what takes place behind the scenes! Now this is probably a dumb question, but what does sanding fabric do? Makes it more pliable? Do you do a small section at a time, or spread out what you will use and do it all? Ok...two dumb questions!
Have a great day you two!

Good Morning Debbie (although in thinking it is probably Afternoon for you)

All the stuff up until now is tedious small stuff (foundation) I enjoy the more detailed stuff...I should have a few good shots for today...
Well the saga of the Blue or Crystal ball still continues.. trouble with the blue...really to small for the owls feet to rest upon...drat!! I like the blue...will have to put on our thinking caps...

Good Morning Rosanna...

I agree he is a fine specimen of a man, but then...I have always liked Older Men!! The Blue is better I think...only trouble..a wee bit to small...we need to go in search of a bigger blue orb!!! We have one tiny bead store here in town...hopefully they will have that one Magical Blue Bead...

Good Morning Oopsie...

I was fortunate last night...no monsters in my dreams, just a whole lot of confusion and mayham!! Typical for me!!
Not a dumb question at all...sanding fabric...I have done this for years. What I do is figure out the section of 'cotton' fabric that I will be using...cut and wash well (to remove sizing)...dry and then on the backside of fabric lightly with little sanding blocks Richard made for me ( blocks of wood, smoothed edges and cut pieces of sand paper stapled tightly around the block ) and I very lightly drag the sand block in one direction only over the fabric... I use light sand paper ...heavy stuff rips right through. I do this until fabric residue comes off...then test the fabric and how plyable it is...I do more if needed. It makes for a very soft 'thinner' fabric...the trick is to do it ONLY until it is soft...without making 'holes' in the fabric...LOL!! Works great...then I wash again, even softer!

Hi Jodi. Sanding fabric seems a perfectly sane thing to do!
I have this beautiful fabric which is perfect for a wizards bedding, but because it's too thick it's just sat in the drawer. When i have the time i will give this a try and let you know how it goes.
Dumbledore is looking fantastic, and it's just wonderful to see what goes under the clothes and all the hard work that goes into each creation.
Nikki x
Oh yes, check me out as Dumbledore on my blog. I couldnt resist...lol!

The strange and horrid dreams i have too. If i ever told anyone the worst one of the lot i'd be locked up.
Its so horrid i could never even mention it...lol.
Ok, ok, here goes then. Well i dream i travel around the uk on trains and look for campers in fields. Then i make notes in my notebook where they are all camping and then at night go back and chop them all up and store all the bits in jars.
I never actually see the chopping up bit in my drams, and only see all the jars that need to be filled to fill all the little gaps around the house thats lined with jars.
See, told you it was horrid... lol.
I've been dreaming this since i was a child.
Please don't lock me up... its only a dream!

Now Nikki...I want you to sit very quietly...possibly with a nice cup of tea...just sit still, very soon you will hear a knock on your door...I want you to quietly go to the door and let those nice men in...they mean you no harm...they just wish to speak with you....hee hee!
Oh WHO am I kidding...my dreams are out there in left field too..I can see I am going to have to 'blog' about this soon... and devulge my crazy 'night life' and I don't mean dancing in a club...

Nikki...those are some pretty interesting dreams... you are so sweet looking...who would ever have dreamed you have this 'thing' against campers!!!lol

Have a Great Weekend...(stay away from open fields)
