At Last...we have completed our little Micers....or is that Meeces...or is it Mousies???!!! We are happy with their outcome...although I must tell you that photos do not do these little creatures justice... it is funny...sometimes you can create something that for some reason...they never quite translate properly through photos...ya kinda have to be there in person to see the soul.... unfortunately this is one of those pieces....They stand just at 6 " ... sculpted in polymer clay and painted. I made authentic Japanese clothing and Richard made tabi's and zoris. Richard made the little Plum Blossom branch from a carved branch and hand cut and painted paper.
Their story is one of Fairy Tale and Romance....(I will have the whole story on the EBAY listing) ..basically 'Itsuki' (the boy...whose name means 'Tree') and Saki (whose name means 'Blossom') ...are in love...and Itsuki works for the Royal Arborist ...and when spring first comes Itsuki (being a mouse) is able to climb the very First Plum Tree to bloom ...and reach the tallest tip top branch to pluck the very first blossoms for his beloved... the sweetest smell on earth.... this is their ritual...his love for her.
Now to let you in on a little secret... This was a special piece I wanted to do....even Richard was not aware of it... it is basically a piece about 'Us' .... since I have known Richard (almost 35 years)...he has 'plucked' the first blossoms off of trees for me...Apple, cherry, plum etc..... and given them to me...he knows how I love the smell.... and it has become our ritual over the years...now matter where we have lived...even here in the desert. So with our 34th anniversary coming in a few days I wanted to create this piece... Richard made the connection when I asked him to make a tiny Plum Blossom Branch....smiling ear to ear...I got a BIG hug and kiss out of that...lol!
So that's the story of 'Itsuki' (Richard) and 'Saki' (Jodi)....
Have a great Weekend Everyone...
Jodi and Richard
