Feeling ever so much more cheery this fine Saturday... it is so true... shutting the door on one room and opening the door too another can make a World of difference ...
I could tell right off the bat this morning when when waking up and 'Toe Touchdown' took place ...that it was gonna be a mighty fine day...and so far so good!
Back to work on Dumbledore...I am soooooooo close to being finished on my part...and then will jump in to help Richard with the Owl...actually I begged of him to let me try my hand at sculpting the owls body whilst he works on carving the wings...and we can meet up somewhere in the middle... Houston , we have lift off!! I really dig sculpting animals...really they are just little humans with a bit more hair or feathers...
OMG...I cannot believe I did this...but I jumped onto the FACEBOOK craze... Our Doll Organization NIADA just got onto FACEBOOK ...and asked members to upload pics... found out I had to be a member to do so...so I joined, not think twice about it I put Jodi Creager in the FB title...when it is really Richard and Me!! Drat, can't change now...but then there are several out there that think we 'melded' together and became one years ago... I have found several friends out there in FACEBOOK Land ...kinda fun. Really, isn't it just another form of Blogging?? Only here in Blogland I get to just ramble on and on , not sure I can do that over on FB...I think there I will just be posting all kinds of fun funky old pictures I can dig up of Richard and me over the years...seems like the place to do that... I have not a clue...
Is this another one of those 'TIME SUCKING' functions I hear so much about??? DON'T EVEN talk to me about TWITTERING.... sounds too Bizarre for words anyway... I will settle for my Blog and FB ... I figure in there somewhere I am going to have to actually 'work' on art...
OK...cramming one more thing into this post...I am sooo impressed with how everyone is using that 'Face in a Hole' program to make really cool pics of themselves... I tried BELIEVE ME I tried... but for some reason my computer does not like the program I must download to try it... so alas I am minus a 'Hole in the Face' Portrait....boo hoo! BUT...I am posting a picture I did of Richard 'Wizard that he is' and Me ''Witch that I am' ...I kind of did it the old fashion way with photoshop... by the by for those that may recognize my outfit....it is Professor McGonagall' (or is that Mac?) ...

Hi Jodi. Love your new witch look, and hubs looks magical! Wish i could use photoshop beyond the basics.
Jodi, could you sugest a good book for me. I want to make goblins, elves, magical creatures and little things like that. I've had a look on Amazon and ebay and followed some of Debbies suggestions, yet i want to get the right one.
What i want to see is how they make the arms and legs join and if i can use wire as a base first or what is the best thing.
I've seen so many wonderful books and thought you may be able to advise which would be bst for me and my taste in miniatures.
Look forward to hearing back form you.
Off to have another look around.
Nikki x
Morning Nikki...
This feels more comfortable...FACEBOOK scares me...LOL!
Hmmm suggesting a good book for elves goblins, magical creatures etc.. many would recommend 'Faeries' by Brian Froud...but, those that follow that book all end up lookig like his work ...and it is always so obvious that they have that book on their shelf. As I do not create a whole lot of Magical Characters or faeries ... it is hard for me to recommend anything. What I do create is always out of my own minds eye...I always recommend this to any artist...as each artist ALWAYS has many sides to them...and believe me...magical creatures reside in your soul...in all of our souls! If you are looking more for a How To book...than I would look for a good book on armatures. It just depends on how detailed you want to get...and working in miniature is no easy task (as you know) . I can tell you that we use a wire under everything we sculpt...from fingers to feet...and all inbetween. A basic wire armature should serve you well ...Richard sculpts the legs over a thin brass tube and I insert my body armature into that tube to join...same with hand and arms....simple really. Just make sure that the wire you choose to use for the body armature is strong enough to take bending back and forth while dressing etc...yet not to heavy.
Hmmm maybe I should do a blog on this...possibly a 'How to' with pics...what do you think?
Happy Monday
Jodi
Thank you for the great advice Jodi.
You are right though and it probably is best to buy a book showing how it all goes together with the wires, rather than follow step by step to make some kind of creature.
The little faces and creatures are already designed in my head and can see them already. I'm just going to go with what feels right as i sculpt the clay. I know i can give this a good go and just want to make sure they are strong when complete and so i can sell them with my potions and other wichy bits and bobs.
Perhaps i should just go along the same lines as with my brooms which are proving to be nice and strong once compplete. I think i'm putting them together right.
I didn't do sculpture at college because i studied interior design, and mostly modelled with whiteboard and card so clay is still quite new to me. Plus i've spent my whole life at drawing boards with rulers and pens and measuring angles (QUITE DULL WORK).
You mention about making sure the wire can bend and for dessing the figures. Does this not crack the clay?
I know you are busy and not my personal tutor (lol) but it would be lovely if you could show just a little of the basics. I'm sure other peple would find ths useful too. But you msut not take up too much of your time.
I have myself done this in the past without reaising how much time it could take up.
Yes, have to agree its much better here than facebook. I'm still in the dark over there... lol. Plus nobody can find me even if they try because i dont put my location and school/college etc.
Thanks loads and loads for your advice. Nikki x
