Questions...I got Questions!!!

I woke up this morning 'Pondering' ... a strange little phase that I occasionally go through. I ponder everything from the earths rotation to why everything seems to 'taste like chicken'....

This mornings Ponder is about Art...and I decided to make my ponderings public with a question for everyone who cares to answer...

"What is/was your favorite piece of artwork you have ever ever ever created....and...Why? Also...did you keep it...give it away...or sell it?

Looking forward to hearing everyone's answer....

Have a Terrifically Tempting Tuesday

My goodness Jodi, such a difficult question! I have NEVER in my life done anything which could be called ART. May be I'm an artisan, yes I'd like to be considered like that. From this point of view I suppose that my stitchings are the best thing that I can produced and, a part 2 pieces, I have always given them away as gifts. I hope I have been of any utility.

What a fun idea!! My favorite is a painting I did when I was 15 and pregnant! (I know.....Way too young!!) But back to the painting, I call it 'The Godfather'...You can find it here:http://katiesclaycorner.blogspot.com/search/label/painting
I still have it hanging on my wall....My son will get it one day~ Maybe when he has kids of his own...It's my favorite because it says so much about what I wanted for my son!! Much Love!!

I'm not really an "artist" either- but I want to answer because I am interested in all the replies you get :) My favorite piece I ever created is a trio of panels that I made that hang in my dining room. I made them after I took a class at artfest with Laurie Mika on handmade and hand painted polymer clay tiles in mosiac work. I have small boxes mixed in with the tiles and inside the boxes are smaller sealed polymer clay boxes with prayers written on paper scraps. The piece is important to me because it is one of the few things I made for myself- not to give away- and because it contains some prayers worked into the artwork that have meaning from different times in my life. I also really love it because it is the colors that I love and make me happy- greens, oranges, reds, yellows, browns. Hope my answer was not too long!

Ooh difficult question indeed.

It was the bonsai on my blog header and yes I sold it. It was the smallest and most detailed thing I'd made at that point.

But since then I've made better and smaller ones.

So probably the cherry blossom bonsai that was smaller than a penny. I made that as a gift for Sans palace.

I am not sure if I have made my all time favorite piece yet. I am hoping it will be a sculpt of some kind.

Oh I got your comment on my armature thanks :-) I lost the internet yesterday so couldn't respond till today. I will be looking out for the mail man...thanks so much.

I love almost all of my pieces and have problems selling it. Good thing I'm not very good at selling. ;-)
M favorite piece is the miniature "copy" I made of Niccollo Dell'Arca's figure of Maria Magdalene. You can see it at http://cwpoppets.net/dellarca.htm.

That's a difficult decision. I loved Mother Teresa but guess my pencil Santa is my all time favorite. You can find him at:

Very interesting question. I would have to say the art piece I have made that had the most impact on me and really changed me inside was my tree paintings and especially tree #2 and #3 found here http://codygoodinarts.yolasite.com/gallery-one.php and I still have them. I have them for sale, just no one has felt about them like I have. They have received many nice compliments. I suppose I am not meant to part with them yet. They have made a deep impact on my sculpture too now.

My favorite would have to be the Santa's Workshop dollhouse I created for a client. I get to visit it once in a while. Wish I had better photos of it but it was a rush delivery to get it there for Christmas morning. Here is a link to a photo album of the photos I do have of it including in a few in progress snapshots.

I guess it is my favorite because of all the detail I put into the piece and all the symbolism and personal touches for my clients that refelcted their home, heritage, art work and faith.

Jodi there is no fire anywhere, I am just hot and tired and sticky.
I can not seem to get away from the heat and my GD wants to be held all of the time. I love that but right now it is like a sauna.
It does not help that I already have a personal summer I carry with me all of the time.
Sorry to scare you.

This is one of those questions that are fun to think about. I'm not an artist either but the first thing that came instantly to mind was an embroidered picture of Geronimo I did for my brother many years ago. It was a pure fluke that it came out so well and I was very proud of it. He gave it to a friend who fell in love with it - very big humph!!! This year I did him a Fimo figure of Mickey Free (who was an indian army scout) it is my best so far. My brother is of course under threat of serious personal damage if he gives it away!!!

Hi Cody...

Powerful Pieces....I love trees anyway but yours demonstrate to me the true connection of man and tree... I would think they would be hard to part with ..maybe you are not...until that certain person has the same connection as you...these trees seem to be your Muse...

Thanks for sharing

I love this question Jodi and I have been thinking about it for awhile. I love love love your answer to Rosanna, great answer.

I have a painting I did with my teacher at the time where he taught me how to put sand in my oils for texture, my first inclusions. LOL!! It is also a combination of brush and knife. The teacher I had before him never combined the two. I still have it, never sold it. It is hanging in my house.

Hi Jodi.
Thanks for popping over to my blog with your best wishes. It was much appreciated.

Oh this is such a fun post but it's going to be a hard one to answer.
I have so many favourites i cant pick.
I've been having a good think on this one and it has to be the first ever witch minaiture i made about 2 years ago.
This was a table i made some potions for, with scrolls and a wall sign.
When i look back i was ever so proud of it and spent hours just looking at it in a state of over the top pride.
Kat the hat bought it and through this sale it gave me the encouragment to carry on with all i could see and imagine in my mind.
So its my favourite because it put me on the right track to making and creating what i love.
Its also my favourite because it brought along a few good friendships and no doubt will bring more.
But i want to pick a second favourite which would be my wizard.
He has so many faults and dare not show anyone what lies beneath his robes, but he proved to me i can sculpt. I had wanted to make him for so long but as you will remember i was petrified to start for fear of failure.
Its been nice to read what everyone has to say and hear the stories behind their favourites.

So far I have two favorite pieces I sculpted most recently and they are titled "Caught in the Headlights " and "Colette,First Night on the Street" They are for sale and in a gallery right now in downtown Napa called "Bloom" They are both Female sculptures with human hair.
I am very emotionally attached to them because of the things they represent. And the time and energy that went into completing them !

Hi Marie...

I tend to believe that the art that touches us the most...even sometimes on a level we really can't understand ...are the pieces we hang onto..art is such a wonderful thing..a perfect method of extracting our soul and placing it ever so carefully into our creation for all to see...sometimes so well hidden that only we the artist can find it... I love that about art.

Hugs,
Jodi

Hi Nikki..

So happy to hear from you and to hear that your hubby is alright...whew!

I think it is pretty common to have several pieces that are considered 'favorites' ...as each piece has something different of you in them...and each piece takes you on a seperate journey...art does that, it takes you by the hand and shows you things you did not think possible ...it shows you your 'other side' which everyone has.. to create art (in any form) is to me the most natural thing a person can do...as it is something you were born with...it just needs to find it's way out!

Hugs,
Jodi

Hi Sheri...

So nice to see you...really love your work... Both pieces sound fantastic... I love art with a purpose. I figure there are two types of art... Art that has a purpose and meaning from the start...and Art that just flows from who knows where with no set plans. Art can be deliciously draining of both our soul and our heart...that's when you know you left a big piece of you behind in it's completion.

Hugs,
Jodi

Hi Jodi,
Before I share, I would like to say how much I enjoy your work.

My favorite piece I have created was a little fairy. He was made from a gourd. I carved a boquet of flowers for his hat and a carved sunflower to frame his sculpted face.
I really had a hard time parting with him, however I did sell him and his new owner was delighted to add him to her collection.
Thanks for this fun post:)

Hi Jodi,
I have thought long and hard about this question...I think "art" can take on many forms and for me my favourite always seems to be the last piece I created.
However, having said that, I have kept the first bear I ever made, I still have the pen and ink drawing, for which I won my first monetary prize at a local art competition some twenty odd years ago and my father has a special poem I wrote for him called "The Man in My Life".
Boy, you certainly know how to make a person take a trip down memory lane! LOL!!

Sandi

Well by jove, I think I have my favorite piece now.

He is very far from perfect but I took a lump of clay and made it look half human.

Even when I make much better sculpts... and I will with practice ....I will never forget the excitement this one has given me.

The 'rock star' is over on my blog.
